Tips to Minimize Your Exposure to Toxins and Maximise Your Health
Go Organic: Not only do organic foods NOT contain the chemical maze of pesticides that regular produce does, but they also have higher nutritional content (including the all important trace minerals). We also recommend switching to free-range meats that haven’t had any growth hormones or antibiotics injected in to them and have led a happy life the way nature intended them to (rather than standing in a feed lot eating grain).
Go Green at Home: Make the switch to natural, environmentally friendly personal care and cleaning products (taking care to avoid palm oil). Most shampoos, conditioners, shower gels, toothpastes and beauty products contain nasty chemicals which get in to your body through your skin. There are some great natural alternatives available now, check out your local health food store for their recommended options
Be careful of ‘greenwashing’: Greenwashing is a technique used by some companies to convince you their product is ‘natural’, when in-fact it isn’t. Companies often use terms like ‘natural’ and ‘plant based’ to describe their products, when in-fact they still contain a range of harmful artificial chemicals. Always read the label and go for 100% Organic where possible.
Take a Look at Your Nutrient Intake: Many fruits and vegetables have been nutritionally depleted to due to intensive farming and heavy pesticide use. Unless you eat 100% organic, you may wish to consider taking a supplement to ensure you are getting your recommended daily intake of minerals and vitamins.
Switch to Whole-grains: You maybe already eat wholemeal bread (white bread is nutritionally bankrupt), but have you made the switch to wholegrain pasta and rice and tried alternative gluten free grains like Quinoa?
Drink Plenty of Water: Most people still are not drinking enough filtered water. This is one of the best ways to cleanse the body everyday and its free!
Have You Done a Detox Recently?
We change the oil in the car, we shower everyday and many people cleanse the outside of their body, but we often forget about the inside. Even though you are obviously someone who cares about the food you put in to the body and is aware of the damage toxins can do, its impossible to avoid toxins completely and even people with a health diet can struggle with some of the symptoms of toxic overload.
We recommend everyone complete a detox program at least a couple of times a year. Its a way to ensure the body stays in peak condition and is given some help to remove the array of chemicals we are exposed to on a daily basis. People are put off detoxing by some of the hype and the thought of sitting on a toilet for hours a day, but this isnt how a detox should be.
A high quality cleansing program, like the Isagenix Fat Burning and Cleansing Systems, should provide nutritional support to the body along with a range of gentle herbs to naturally cleanse the body and help it return to its natural balance. We suggest avoiding any colon cleanse or product containing laxatives (even natural ones) and go for a quality nutritional cleansing program like the Isagenix 9 day cleanse (or the 30 day version).
